It would not be wrong that the charm of the biggest entertainment industries of the world like Bollywood has died down in the world. These Korean TV series, movies and pop bands are giving a very tough competition to industries like Hollywood. Singers and actors from South Korea are now the new global sensation.

If you love watching k-dramas or you want to take a break from Hollywood in 2021, here are your best picks from year 2020 based on the IMDB rating which you can binge-watch in 2021. All these shows are available on Netflix and some are even Netflix’s own production. Okay so let’s get started;

1. It’s Okay to not be Okay

Topping the charts we have It’s Okay to not be Okay which is a Netflix original show and received the highest rating of 9.0 on IMDB.

The story of this psychological thriller revolves around a children’s book author with a personality disorder and a selfless psychiatric nurse who has an elder brother with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

His elder brother cannot recognize people’s emotions and is fixed on children’s books and cartoon from 1980s Dooly the dinosaur.

The author who is unable to show empathy and the nurse who has no time for love due to his responsibilities soon fall in an unusual romance.

2. The Flower of Evil

This crime drama thriller with an IMDB rating of 8.9 had the audiences captivated throughout its time it went on air. The drama focuses on the dark aspects of a modern day Korean society.

The story revolves around a family which seems perfect to the public eye but is not in reality. The wife who is a detective gets to investigate a series of murders and gets to know that her husband has a hidden secret.

3. Crash Landing on you

Crash landing on you with a rating of 8.7 on IMDB was declared third most watched k-drama on cable television. This drama is also exclusively available on Netflix.

The unique storyline revolves around a chaebol heiress who goes paragliding and goes off course and ends up in North Korea!

There she is found by a man who is a captain in the North Korean Army. He tries to get her back home because if her identity was to be found it would cause a turmoil. Along the way of struggle in getting her home, they start to fall in love.

4. Alice

Alice is a science fiction series with a rating of 8.8 mixed up with a little drama and romance.

The drama spins around the concept of time travel. Story revolves around a police officer who stumbles upon the reality of existence of time travel while he was investigating a case.

Soon he meets a woman who died in the past and gets very interested in knowing her time travelling secrets.

5. Hospital Playlist

Hospital playlist was the second installment of this series after the success of the first one.

This drama focuses on five doctors and nurses at a South Korean hospital and their daily life routines in the hospital.

These doctors and nurses has been friends since 1999. This drama rated 8.8 on IMDB.

6. The King; Eternal Monarch

This drama was one of the internationally popular dramas of early 2020.

This drama with a rating of 8.7 on IMDB focuses on a king who tries to breach the barrier between two worlds.

His world and the modern day South Korea after his uncle kills his father and leaves his realm to enter the modern-day world.

He encounters a detective and becomes friends with her, or even more than that.

7. The World of the Married

With a rating of 8.3 on IMDB this drama was a reenactment of BBC One’s series named Doctor Foster. This series was written by was written by Mike Bartlett.

This drama tells the story of how a married couple cheats on one another and how it results in the revenge, grief and healing.

8. Start-Up

Start-up is a story of a young woman who was abandoned by her mother.

She lived her life with her grandmother because her father also died after her mother left.

She dreams to fulfil her late father’s dream of starting his own business.

While participating in a start-up sponsor show she meets a struggling engineer who also dreams to become a successful entrepreneur.

This drama rated 8.2 on IMDB.

9. Itaewon Class

Itaewon Class tells a story of a youngster who was falsely accused of a murder and came back after imprisonment and wants to start a new life.

He follows his father’s ways and sets up a bar-restaurant in Itaewon.

He struggles because he is up against the food conglomerates of the market which also includes the person who is the reason his father died and he faced imprisonment. This series bagged a rating of 8.2 on IMDB.

10. The Tale of a Gumiho

This amazing urban dark fantasy drama was the last hit of 2020.

The drama tells the story about a gumiho (a nine-tailed fox from Chinese and Korean folklore) who is more than a 1000 years old and is waiting for the reincarnation of his first love which happened to be a human woman.

Meanwhile, a woman who is a production director is after him and wants to know about his identity.
